Portland, OR has been a hotbed for Hip Hop the last few years, slowly but surely leaking artists into the mainstream one by one. For those that have been following the scene for awhile, you know that groups including Lifesavas, Oldominion, and Sandpeople have helped pave the way for the new Portland Rap Renaissance currently taking place.

One of the staples of the PDX scene is Al-One, originally a member of The Chosen, Sandpeople, and later Alphabet Stew - Al has always delivered top notch lyricism with a keen ear for production that has helped him stand out from the pack since his first release in 2004. 2017 catches Al-One going full speed with his new EP, Sharptongue featuring a bulk of production handled by Portland's own Rey Holiday with guest production from Chase Moore, Pale Soul, and super-producer Illmind as well as features from MC's Theory Hazit, Illmaculate, Serge Severe, and more.

@peterjamesmusic - "The Cycle Tape" (EP)

After carving a name for himself among the Boston underground Hip Hop scene as one half of Lodus Dei, Peter James switches gears to becoming a solo act and debuts "The Cycle Tape". Oozing with intensive tales and vintage-based instrumental candy for the ear, the six track effort embodies what Hip Hop is all about, speaking about the pitfalls of life in its rawest form. "Trigger Happy" and "Crack Fien Dreamz" are prime examples of James' sharp storytelling skills. Peter is a hybrid emcee, crossbred by artists such as Canibus, Biggie and Logic. "The Cycle Tape" is sure to put the Beanstown lyricist on the map. Listen to the entire project, from start to finish, below.

@tweezedoitez - "Parallel Universes" (EP)

North Carolina's Tweeze aka Twee-ze follows up his previously released "Who Cares" project with the eight track EP, "Parallel Universes". The album features the breakout hit, "Carolina Schemin'", a collab effort with Soul singer, CandaceK. For those unfamiliar to Tweeze's discography, his unique vocal tone consists of a distinct southern drawl full of a variety of harmonies.

He has a very chilled, laid back sound that will appeal to smokers and Hip Hop heads alike. Check songs like "Forest Fires" and "Hermetic Dreams" for prime examples to that statement. The theme behind this particular project is a parallel universe version of Tweeze, think of Jet Li's "The One" movie for a better visual understanding. You can now stream the entire "Parallel Universes" EP below, via Soundcloud.

@TaiyamoDenku @majestic_l & @amrambunxious - "Gutter Noise" Prod By @dcypha (Audio)

The fellas of Cypha Den Music are back with a hard hitting loose single that proves beyond any doubt that the underground is alive and well. The song is called "Gutter Noise" and serves as a celebratory release as it features newly signed emcees, L. Majestic and Rambunxious. Together on one label, the squad has now expanded it's movement from Wisconsin to New York and overseas to Australia. Alongside frontman Taiyamo Denku, the trio fully illustrate their lyrical prowess over the abusive instrumental constructed by D-Cypha. The self described "Collab King" also handles the chorus duties and utilizes some tough backing vocals to land a knockout hook on feeble rappers. Press play and proceed with caution as dangerous bars of fury proceed on "Gutter Noise".

@ishestrange Ft @Mike_Eagle - "Rappers Say The Darnedest Things" (Audio)

Following up last month's release of "Fall Back" featuring Eligh, Pennsylvania emcee Izzy Strange debuts his next infectious hit titled "Rappers Say The Darnedest Things". Once again, the Beasley Corner Bodega representative contracts a smooth guest feature. This time it's from Chicago lyricist, Open Mike Eagle. Experience an entertaining take on surviving in a world of shattered dreams. The song was produced by The Netherfriends, who is also responsible for the instrumental behind "Fall Back". The beat miner illustrates the track with dream inducing sounds riddled with low octave bass lines. It's no secret that Hip Hop is full of braggadocios rhymes and simulated lifestyles. Izzy and Mike do a solid job of exposing the foolery on the single while explaining just how the plan on surviving in a scene where "Rappers Say The Darnedest Things". Listen and purchase the song via Bandcamp below.
