@qzthaleader - "A PEN-STROKE OF GENIUS" (Interview)

QZthaLeader with gold chain with Moments of Genius Front Cover and Contact Information

So the L.P. is finally live. Q.Z. and I have worked on this project for the last year now. We did all the production, recording, mixing and mastering while living on opposite sides of the country. I produced all but 1 out of the 10 tracks. We thought we could add a little bit for everyone with the song selection, but you never know. So just take a listen for yourself and let us know what you think. It is available for FREE at

      Q.Z. Tha Leader interview

1.How has the move from Biloxi to Portland had an effect on your music?

  • I've done shows here before and the love I received was unreal. The vibe of the city was so dope to me. It's a very artistic and creative place. So when I moved here in July 2013, I instantly fed off the artistic vibes and gained inspiration from the city. This city allowed me the creative space to discovered who I am as an artist and to experiment with different concepts sonically.

2.Who are the Packleader's and how are you involved with them?

  • Packleader's are just some guys that like the art of creating. No matter if it's Videography, or music. We're just a "Pack" of people in love with our work trying to push the envelope further.

3.Where do you get your inspiration for your videos?

  • That's a tough one. Usually it's the concept of not wanting to be so literal. Music & video is an art-form that can affect different people in different ways. So I want my songs, and visuals to do just that. Meaning, whatever state of mine you conceive it in, will determine what message you'll receive from it.

4.What happened to your group Tha In Crowd?

  • Tha In Crowd is still there, we've just decided to take a break from the group and focus on separate endeavors. We're both multi-talented artist. J-5ive with drawing, painting, and singing. Me with fashion, songwriting and music production. You will definitely here so more collabos from us in the near future.

5.How is going solo different after being in a group compared to when you were solo before the group?

  • It's different because when you perform you're used to having your partner back you up and handle some of the weight. Now it's just you. Success or failure is totally on you. Before the group I was solo, but me and J-5ive always did records together and performed together. So we were basically a group then we just hadn't put it into inception. So now it's like totally on me, and on me only. I must say i like the pressure and the odds. I'm a competitor at heart!

6.How did you come to work with Coda on your latest project?

  •  It's crazy, because I met Coda Through J-5ive at award show a couple years back and we always said we would get up and work together. So years later, the opportunity presented itself and we connected and went from there. He had this idea of a 4 track EP. He started sending me track after the track and I loved everyone! Now it's it's months later and we have a 10 track EP!!
7.Where did the concept for the project (MOG) come about?

  • It's kind of a long story. But to make it as short as I can. I feel that gaining knowledge can be a gift and a curse. The more you know. The more you become a threat, depending on what type of knowledge you're obtaining. Also, I think more people downplay themselves of being smart just to fit into a certain crowd. Simply stated, the more you know, the more you're judge and branded a "Know it all".

8.What projects are you working on currently we should know about?

  • Well, currently i'm working on Part II of the Moment Of Genius installment. I'm producing for an artist I worked with on MOG part 1 named Briana Marion. She's an upcoming neo soul singer. Also working some DJ's on some outside feature projects
9.I know you work with lots of producers from across the world, but how do you like working with producers over the Internet and phone versus in person in the studio?

  • It's totally different actually. Over the internet is dope because it's more of a time based thing. If you're artist that has trouble with deadlines, then it might not be for you. Working in the studio with an artist is incomparable because you get to watch the magic happen organically from inception to finish. You feed off each others vibes and ideas. Nothing like it in the world!

10.Who is all featured on MOG?

  • Of course the producer Coda. He produced all the tracks except one, Newton's Law, which I produced. The female vocalist I mentioned earlier, Briana Marion. Another Singer/Songwriter who goes by the name DsVerse. And last but not least, my child hood friend and brother, Yung Sipp. Not too many rapper features, because i felt this was a time for me to find my voice and express my thoughts and views.
